*Parts per million or PPM is a dimensionless measure of the concentration of one substance mixed in with another. For example, the amount of lead in a water sample or the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. It’s essentially like a percentage, which you could analogously refer to as “parts per hundred,” but PPM is better suited to substances in much smaller concentrations.
